Following requests from young people for a safe meeting place in Monmomouth local residents came together with young people to meet that need. The group became known as Monmouth Youth Project.
In 2001 the Attik youth centre was opened (by the Bus Station) providing Monmouth’s young people with a safe place to socialise which is supported by professional youth workers. Young people were actively involved in the design of the Attik and the appointment of staff. In 2011 the Attik relocated to the Library Annex, next to the Library on Whitecross Street.
At the Attik, young people are able to access a range of facilities, activities, trips, workshops and on site services including specialist youth workers, counselling and a young people’s health clinic.
The Attik is open to all young people aged 11 – 25 years though it is mainly used by those aged 11 – 16. Those aged 16 and above tend to drop in for specific services. The Attik is free to use.
Staffing – Youth workers are employed by Monmouthshire County Council’s Youth Services. Staff are qualified to National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 in Youth and Community Work or working towards this qualification. All staff and volunteers with access to young people have been cleared by the Data Baring Scheme (Criminal Record Bureau).

In 2014 we sought young people’s feedback from across Monmouth Comprehensive School's youth population.
1054 young people completed our questionnaire which sought to ensure the Attik was fit for purpose and meeting young people’s needs. 1627 questionnaires were issued and a staggering 65% of the school population responded.
The following is just some of the feedback received:
Young people’s comments have provided a huge amount of information which we will use to ensure we provide the services and facilities young people want.
First and foremost the Attik is the young people who use it. Young people tell us what they want and we strive to meet it. We also seek feedback from those who do not use it.
We are Monmouth Youth Project which was set up in April 1998. The Attik is our sole project. We are a Registered Charity (Charity No 1069000) and a Company Limited by Guarantee (Company no 03538099)
Partnership
We work in partnership with Monmouthshire County Council’s Youth Services who provide the staff and staff costs. We provide the building and running costs.
Management
The Attik Youth Council manages the day to day operation of the Attik assisted by the staff. The longer term operation of the Attik is managed by the Monmouth Youth Project Steering Group comprising local residents, County and Town Councillors and the Youth Service.
