WHY DO WE NEED THE ATTIK?
WHATS HAPPENING
FUNDRAISING WITHIN THE WIDER COMMUNITY
Monmouth Youth Project is organising a sponsored abseil of St Mary’s Church on Saturday 21 April enabling local organisations that work with young people to raise funds for their own causes. Monmouth Town Council has contributed £150.00 towards the event so there will only be a £20 charge per team entered. Individual youth focussed projects are encouraged to submit a team of three people for this event.

FUNDRAISING FOR THE ATTIK
DUCK RACE – Monmouth Youth Project will be holding its annual Duck Race during June 2007. Volunteers will be looking to sell 1000 plastic ducks at £1 each to raise the £1,000. If you see the Duck Sellers around please support them by buying a ‘duck’.
ZIP WIRE – Monmouth Youth Project are organising a zip wire (sometimes known as an aerial runway) from the tower of St Mary’s Church taking place on Saturday 20th October 2007. It is anticipated that the zip wire will cover 100 metres. Teams of three are encouraged to take part with the team raising the most money for the Attik receiving a bottle of champagne. If you are interested please contact b4englefield@yahoo.co.uk
DEVELOPING MORE Y/P SERVICES
We are working to develop additional 'confidential' space to enable partner organisation to provide more services for young people. The work has been costed and we are submitting funding bids to relevant groups to finance this work. We hope to have the new rooms operational shortly.
EVALUATION OF THE ATTIK
Following the success of the previous young people’s evaluation, when 78% of 1000 young people told us what they thought about the Attik, we are about to undertake a further evaluation. The Attik must not stand still and we constantly need to ensure the Attik meets young peoples’ needs. Feedback from the evaluation will be used to shape the future direction of the Attik. Concerns raised will also be investigated and acted upon to ensure the Attik continues to remain fit for purpose.
SUBSTANCE MISUSE WORKER
Funding from J. Paul Getty Charitable Trust has employed a Substance Misuse Worker on a part time basis for three years to develop links between users / parents / guardians of users, service providers and develop local initiatives to challenge substance misuse. Drugs, whether alcohol or illegal drugs, have been a growing issue in rural communities for a number of years. The project seeks to alert young people to the dangers and offer support to move away from drugs. The project is showing considerable benefit in terms of referrals, delivery of workshops within schools and work with parents / guardians of drug users.
DEVELOPMENT WORKER
Funding has been received from Esmee Fairbairn Foundation to employ a part-time Development Worker for two years to develop the financial sustainability of the Attik. Successes so far include increasing partner contributions, extending the range of partners and developing an income stream through the Café.
